Thank You - Technique Challenge

Here's another one of my Thank you cards for the PAC.  This was the other card that I made for our Technique challenge this month.  I added the white lines around the edge of the Framelits die with my gel pen.  It just finishes it off.

I originally left the sentiment off and put it on today as I wasn't sure what this card would be used for!

Very Busy Week

I apologize for not having posts for a lot of this week.  I started a part-part time job on Monday & Tuesday of this week and it's messed me up for card making and other things - laundry, cleaning, cooking, etc.  I don't know how I did everything when I was working full-time!

Plus we had a HUGE fundraising event at the school - a Silent Auction.  We hand $22,000 worth of items and we managed to raise over $17,000 for the school!  WOW!

So I've been making Thank-you cards for those involved.  Here's one of them.  I made the flowers using the Blossom punch, snailed them down and then ran them through the Big Shot.  So you get a bit of a quilted look.

Club Card Challenge

Here's the template we were given for this month's Technique Challenge.  For some reason I had a tough time with this design.  Not sure why, but couldn't get my head wrapped around it.  So I created this Father's Day card, wasn't too happy with it and so created another card (which I'll post at another time).
Everyone I showed my Fox card to thought it was great, and it won me the prize for best card last night.  So I guess I was over thinking it!

Freshly Made Sketches #36

Christmas in May!  Like my last post said, I was going through some of my DSP and came across the Christmas paper and thought, why not!  Get a head start on Christmas cards now and then it will be so much easier when December comes along and there are no cards made but it's time to mail them!   And I love this stamp set - it's so versatile for all age groups.
I changed up the design a bit and thought "outside the box" - just what we were told to do!

Mojo Monday 242

I've been going through some of my older and very retired DSP and it's got my creative juices flowing again.  It's always fun to use some products that you haven't used for a loooong time.

Sympathy

I made this card for a very close friend of my parents who died very unexpectedly.  I'm not sure how keen I am about it as I tend to go for the simple look and style of cards - but I think this one was perfect for remembering Doris.

I don't know if it's a good thing or not, but I tend to lean towards "Trendy Trees" when I'm making sympathy cards.  There's something about a lone tree that signifies a person (in my mind at least).

Brayer Technique

This card was made using the scallop square for the big shot, but instead of running the paper through the Big Shot, I used a transparency and then inked up my brayer and and rolled it over the transparent piece of paper so the ink came right through to the card.  Just another way to use the Big Shot.  You could even do this technique with a punch.

You'll have to excuse the crooked sentiment!

Shadow Box

We made this card at our monthly technique club and it's so simple but so much depth to it because of the shadow box.  So easy to make using the Big Shot Framelits.  The framelits frame the Summer Smooches flowers very nicely.

The white on this card doesn't come through correctly - so I apologize for that.  The card and shadow box are white.

Simple Birthday

Here's a birthday card that I did that was really easy.  I just love using the Embossing Folders to add texture to the cards.   And the Clearlits Die Scallop Rectangle adds a little extra to the framing of the animals rather than going with a straight edge rectangle!

Mojo Monday 241

This card sure didn't turn out how I thought it would.  It's better, but definitely not where I was going when I started.  I knew I wanted the flower Embossing around the edge and then sponged the flowers with Daffodil Delight (it's hard to see in some of these pictures).  I then thought I was going to put a piece of DSP (didn't know which one) in the middle, but it just didn't work.  So I went with the solid colors and embossed them all.

I think it worked out pretty well, considering . . .

Manly Birthday

I mailed this card off to Scott's uncle in Edmonton on Sunday.  His birthday is on Tuesday so either it will arrive on Tuesday or one day late.  Sometimes Canada Post is so unpredictable.

What I like about this card is that's it was another way to use up some scrappy paper that was just lying around.  And I got to use the 1 1/4" square punch - which is so very, very useful.  I've been using it to cut out the triangles when you make your envelopes using the Simply Scored Diagonal Plate - the triangles are so uniform now.

I added the button because it needed a little "bling" and then thought a piece of butcher twine would just finish it off, and it did.  For some reason I find it hard to just stamp the sentiment right on the card - I always feel it needs to be punched up on something - but on this card, it didn't need it.

Wedding Bliss

This was a card I made for friends who surprised their family with their wedding.  It was their son's first birthday party (not on his actual birthday), family only, and they had a JP come to the house and perform the ceremony.  The bride had bought herself a wedding dress, so she changed, and they got married.

We weren't there but it sounded like it was a lovely time.  Sarah and I knew about the wedding so we took the bride out the night before to have some "girl time".

I just love using the rhinestones on flowers.  It finishes them off and makes them "pop" off the page.

Althought the envelope paper doesn't 100% match the pink on the card, it was still a nice touch to add some DSP to the envelope flap.  And so easy to do!

Freshly Made Sketches #34

This design was a bit tricky for me and then I started flipping through the new catalogue and saw a great way to showcase a circle sentiment, but not on top of another circle.  I used the Framelits for the Big Shot and I think it adds a nice touch.  Adding the white dots with my Gel Pen finished it off.

It's hard to see them but there are rhinestones on the Snowflake Embossing Folder.  I'm hoping that they don't look like snowflakes but could pass as flowers at this time of year.  I think that if you didn't know they were supposed to be snowflakes, I can get away with it.

Mojo Monday 240

Have I told you how much I am loving Mojo Monday?  I've actually been on top of my creations and getting them posted usually be Friday.  It's nice to take a look at the design on Monday and then think about it for a couple of days before sitting down to "create".  Everyone has such great and unique creations.  This is a very talented group of ladies and I love seeing what everyone else comes up with.

This is my take on this week's design.  I'm sticking with the Summer Smooches paper and colors right now as they are my most recent purchase and I'm taking full advantage of them before I start in on the new in-colors from the new catalogue

This is my second mother's day card - so now the Mother's Day card's on my to do list are now complete!

And I just received my Simply Scored Diagonal Plate so now I'm all about making envelopes.  Who knew it was so easy to do and with all the DSP from years gone by, I can start using it up and have really cool looking envelopes!

Ladybug Birthday

Another card by Sarah.  I just love how she created the lady bugs using tools that she has in her kit - the circle punch for the lady bug bodies, another smaller circle punch for the spots, the cupcake punch for the clouds.  I think we get stuck in a rut and forget to think outside the box and use the punches for other things other than what we originally see their use for.  Oh yah - she used another punch for the antenna's but I can't remember which one.

So really this card is adapting all punches for all different purposes.  Very creative!

Thanks so much

A card that Sister Sarah created.  I like that she embossed the flower stamp on the card stock.  It makes it stand out so much more than if it had been only done with the versa mark.  And the little tags add a little "bling" to the card as well.

Sarah is soooo busy with work which is why you have been seeing more of my cards than hers.  I think I mentioned earlier in the blog that she started a new job, I guess about a month ago (time flies) so that's been her priority.  And when she gets home at night she's got her twin girls, aged 2 1/2, to entertain and then by the time the girls get to bed, its down time (or sometimes work time) for Sarah.

But I'm trying to get a couple of her cards up each week so you can see what she's done.

Ice Cream Birthday

I made this card for a Birthday Party Max went to this weekend.  It was so great because I got to use the Cupcake Punch for something other than a cupcake!  And I ran the cone through the Big Shot using the Square Lattice Embossing folder to give it some texture.  I think it worked out really well.

Freshly Made Sketches #33

Good Morning -   Bit of a delay getting today's post up and now I'm wrestling (per se) with my 2 1/2 year old daughter while I do this to try and prevent her from dumping all my buttons and opening all my markers.  Ahhhh - the things we go through as mother's.

Here's my version of this weeks Sketch.  I had it done a few days ago but wasn't happy with it.  It came to me in the night to add the Embossing Stripes - which I think makes a HUGE difference and now I'm really happy with this card.  It was feeling too plain.  I just got the Textured Impressions Stripes for the Big Shot and love it!

Mojo Monday 239

It's fun having the choice of two different layouts.  I haven't done any circle cards before, so I stayed in my comfort zone with the square card.  I added the rhinestones because the card needed some "bling".  I just received the Summer Smooches paper and stamp set, so this was my first card using the products and I had a tough time deciding which paper to use as all the Summer Smooches DSP is so bright and cheerful.

And we even got organized this week and Sarah made us watermark's so that we can mark our cards!  Thanks Sar!

Fox & Friends Retiring

We're sad to see the Fox & Friends stamp set retire.  It's such a great stamp set and can be used for any occasion.  There are two cards here that Sarah has designed that would make a great set of cards if you were wanting to give them to a friend or family member for a gift.  It would make a great package for a teacher end-of-the-year thank you gift as well.  Don't like to think of end of the school year, but it's going to come up really fast!

Self Closing Card

I'm not sure what the technical or proper term is for this card that Sarah created, but you don't need an envelope if you don't want to use one.  The ends, where the triangle is, cross over with the back of the card (I can't think of the words right now to accurately describe).  Does that make any sense?  The blue triangle you see on the right of the card is actually the inside of the card.
